Varadarajan was killed in an encounter with militants in Shopian area of Jammu and Kashmir last week. Captain Srinivasan has written a letter to his parents appealing them to treat him as one of their sons. 

His handwritten note read: “Dear Father & Mother, I am Capt S Srinivasan of Air India & I have had the honour of flying your brave son from Delhi to Chennai. I send my sincerest condolences & pranams to both of you. Please accept them. May God bless Mukund’s soul and give you strength. Please think of me as 1 of your sons. Regards Capt S Srinivasan.”

Varadarajan was cremated with full state honours on Monday in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had expressed grief over the death of the brave heart and announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family.

New Delhi: Moved by the emotional letter of Air India pilot Captain S Srinivasan, who flew the body of Indian army major Mukund Varadarajan, who was killed during an encounter with terrorists in Shopian area of Kashmir last week, Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has said that he feels proud of the armed forces and brave sons of the country.
