New Delhi: As many as 47 rail officials have been chargesheeted for renting out railways quarters. Their promotion and increment are said to have been put on hold.

A survey of railway quarters in Delhi and nearby areas was conducted during which it was found that there are around 12, 000 railway flats in the national capital out of which 3, 000 flats have been given on rent.

However, 2, 000 rail officials are in queue to get government accommodation.

According to senior railway officials, the survey revealed that nearly 20 percent of the quarters were given on rent. Moreover, these quarters are given on rent to those who are not working with Railways.

As per the senior officials of Delhi zone, 300 out of 4000 flats were found to be given on rent. Altogether 47 officials have been booked in this connection and chargesheet has also been filed against them.

Inspection of railway quarters will be carried out and it is expected that the number of flats on rent can increase, an official said.

A railway quarter is allotted to any official on the basis of his\ her basic salary and the facility can be availed by the concerned official or his/her family members.

Senior PR official of Delhi zone YS Rajput said that strict action will be taken against those railway officials who flout the norms listed for allotment of government accommodation.
