New Delhi: In a bid to attract more tourists, Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay and Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi here on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Clean India’ campaign in the august presence of former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

The campaign aims at cleaning tourist destinations and trains. The initiative has been taken in the wake of significant development of tourist spots, where dirtiness has proved to be main hurdle in enticing the tourists.

Tourism Minister said, “The Centre wants to develop Sufi circuit, Sikh circuit in line with the Buddha circuit to attract more tourists,” adding that workshop on cleanliness will be organized in several other towns also, for which a concrete roadmap will be prepared.

The Centre wants to double the number of foreign tourists. Recently, Prime Minister had constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee comprising 14 ministries to put forth suggestions in this regard.
Railways Minister also gave assurance to maintain cleanliness in the railway coaches and on various stations.

Commenting on the issue, Kalam suggested that garbage and waste should be recycled for power production.

Several prominent persons including Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Shatrughan Sinha, Telugu star Chiranjeevi, who recently merged his Praja Rajyam Party into the Congress were present on the occasion.
