Chandigarh: In its attempt to check road accidents, the Haryana government will challan all the transport vehicles running without a speed governor or using a tampered one.

The secretaries of various Road Transport Authorities (RTAs) have been asked to launch a vigorous campaign against the offending vehicles. At a seminar organised in Chandigarh on Thursday by Haryana Transport Department regarding implementation of speed governors programme, they were asked to deal sternly with the erring vehicles.

"Fixing of speed governors in all the transport vehicles is mandatory in Haryana," said Amit Jha, Transport Commissioner Haryana. "A number of steps have been taken for successful implementation of the programme. However, there were reports that the vehicle operators were resorting to tampering with the governors after their installation," he said.

Purpose of the seminar was to sensitise all the stake holders about the issue and to arrive at certain conclusions to make the speed governors tamper proof.

The seminar was attended by officers of Transport Departments of Punjab and Haryana, Haryana Roadways, Secretary, RTAs, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, speed governor manufacturers, vehicle manufacturers and agencies authorized by the Central Government.
