Kolkata: The efforts of Trinamool Congress (TMC) to speed up development work in West Bengal suffered a major jolt as two party stalwarts have locked horns over a dispute. TMC parliamentarian Somen Mitra has alleged Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy of financial irregularities and granting lease of a Port Trust land at low rates.

Demanding a probe into his allegations, Mitra in a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has apprised her about the details of the irregularities carried out by Roy. Giving the information in this regard, Mitra said, “If such an issue is brought before me, it is my duty as a parliamentarian to know all the details related to the matter.”

It is worth mentioning that it was because of Mitra, Banerjee left Congress 13-years back to form TMC. However, Mitra denied commenting on the issue. Mitra’s wife Shika is a TMC legislator and a key party member.

Since Roy is considered close to Mamata, the allegations made by Mitra are being termed as a direct attack on the CM.  Denying any such intentions, he said, “Be it a Union minister or a state minister, if there is a complaint it is our duty to raise our voice on the issue.”
