Allahabad South is one of the high profile constituencies which go to polls on February 15. In 2007, BSP candidate Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ had surprisingly emerged victorious by defeating then Bharatiya Janata Party state president and former Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Keshri Nath Tripathi. Nandi was rewarded with a cabinet rank in Mayawati government for his emphatic win over the BJP candidate.

This time too, Tripathi is facing tough fight from Nandi. However Nandi may face anti-incumbency against him. The Congress fielded Jitendra Nath Singh and the Samajwadi Party gave ticket to Pervez Ahmed to make the fight multi-cornered.

Former UP BJP chief and five-time MLA Tripathi is trying hard to settle scores against Nandi.  He is locked in a three-cornered contest with Congress nominee Jitendra Nath, who is also the city Mayor, and Nandi.

It would be interesting to see if Tripathi succeeds in defeating the BSP minister Nandi this time or not.
