New Delhi: Trouble seems to mount for Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh with fellow pugilist Ram Singh reportedly claiming that the sporting icon had bought ‘heroin’ from drug dealer Anup Singh Kahlon.

TV reports said, Ram Singh confessed that the two boxers met the drug dealer. Reports quoted Ram Singh as saying that he and Vijender purchased heroin from the drug dealer. Ram Singh further said that he and Vijender met the drug dealer three to four times but they were not habitual users.

The Punjab Police on Saturday summoned boxer Ram Singh for questioning in a drug haul case, a police official said.

Ram Singh was undergoing training at the National Institute of Sports in Punjab's Patiala town when he was summoned to Fategarh Sahib for questioning. He had joined the police probe late Friday.

It is noteworthy that Kahlon in a shocking revelation on Friday claimed that the two boxers had bought small amounts of heroin from him.

Police on Friday had refused Vijender's involvement but said that the former world number one boxer will be called for questioning, if required.

The name of Olympic medal winning boxer cropped up on Friday after recovery of 26 kg of heroin worth an estimated Rs 130 crore from an NRI's house in Mohali's district on Thursday and the police said his role was being examined.

The 27-year-old sporting icon, who is also a DSP-rank officer with Haryana Police, of his part trashed allegations that he had links with the drug dealer, saying the ‘ridiculous charges’ would be proved wrong in investigations.

Punjab Police on Friday said that Singh was not involved in a drug smuggling racket but has not given him the clean chit either.

On late Thursday evening, Fatehgarh Sahib police had conducted raids at a flat in Zirakpur town in Mohali district and had recovered 26 kg heroin worth Rs.130 crore in the international market.

The flat belongs to NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon and is in Swastik Vihar area in Zirakpur, 10 km from state capital Chandigarh. During the interrogation, Kahlon said pugilists Vijender Singh and Ram Singh were his clients and they used to visit him.

However, police have refuted these allegations against the boxers."We recovered Vijender's car from near the NRI's house but it does not indicate his involvement in the drugs racket. We will call Vijender for questioning, if required," said Hardyal Singh Mann, senior superintendent of Fathegarh Sahib police.
