Jaipur: Bickering in state Congress cadres has once again emerged on the surface as the party members have started lobbying for the post of Rajasthan Congress chief. The situation has dipped to the extent that Congress leaders in the race for the post are leaving no stone unturned in the efforts to prove their supremacy over others.

Meanwhile, senior Congress members have also locked horns for key posts in over a dozen district party committees, which are expected to be announced soon.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, after a recent meeting with Congress high command, said the party will soon announce a new state chief. Gehlot’s statement has brought Congress members on their toes and a cut throat competition is being witnessed amongst the senior state leaders for the post.

Raghu Sharma and Chander Bhan have emerged as the main contenders for the post. Bhan had switched to Congress from Janata Dal. Later, he was inducted in the Gehlot Cabinet and presently holds the post of Vice-President in Rajasthan PCC.

The name of party MP, Narendra Budania has been raised by the Jat lobby. In wake of Gehlot’s statement, Brahmin and Jat lobbies have stepped up their efforts to support their candidates. Former chief of National Commission for Women (NCW) Girija Vyas and Mamata Sharma are also being regarded as the frontrunners for the post.

While a section of Congress members is pitching for a Dalit or Minority member for the post. Following which the names of Rajya Sabha MP Ashak Ali Tak and officiating state president Parasram Mordia and AA Khan too have come to the fore.

In addition, a stiff competition is being witnessed among the party members for the various posts of over a dozen district Congress committees of the state. Veteran leader Naval Kishor Sharma has extended his support to Salim Kagji for the post of president of Jaipur town.

MP Lalchand Kataria wants his team to hold key posts in the Jaipur rural district committee. Anti Kataria faction has given message to the high command that one post of either Jaipur town or Jaipur rural should be given to the Brahmin community as both are Brahmin dominated areas.

For Jaipur rural, MLA Ganga Sahay Sharma and Censor Board of Film member Abadh Sharma are the top contenders, whereas Mahajans have raised the demand for a member of their community to be named for the post of party president for Jaipur city.
