New Delhi: To ensure quick transfer of critical patients, a tunnel road link between the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Trauma Centre is expected to be built within a year.

For this, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been roped in and would soon start working on this project.

According to the DMRC official, “The tenders are open and the construction companies have been invited. We are hoping to commence the work on this project by December.”

The project would be a major relief for patients in serious condition. This would ensure the quick transfer from AIIMS main building to the Trauma Centre.

The Trauma Centre is functioning in the AIIMS campus and needs frequent exchange of doctors, patients, support staff and support systems. With the AIIMS main building located about 1 km away along the Ring Road and this part being one of the most congested areas in the city, it takes around 15-30 minutes to shuttle between the two buildings. The tunnel road will help connect the two premises directly,” said a DMRC spokesperson
