Allahabad: Allahabad High Court on Thursday sought a reply from Centre and the UP government on a petition seeking extension of the March 31 deadline for compulsory installation of set-top boxes in a number of cities across the state.
Admitting a Public Interest Litigation filed by an Agra resident DK Joshi, a Division Bench comprising Justice Sushil Harkauli and Justice Manoj Mishra asked the counsels for the Centre and the state to seek instructions and inform the court on the next date of hearing on April 8.
The petitioner had prayed for extending the deadline as many people were unable to get set-top boxes installed at their places, despite being willing to do so, due to non-availability of the equipment in adequate number.
The petitioner had also claimed that many viewers were being deprived of watching television channels due to their inability to get set-top boxes installed by March 31.
