"I have been roped in Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet', a sumptuous period film, with intrigue, passion and romance," Basu said. "It's good to be able to concentrate on a performance with a fine director. It's a nice change from putting together all the elements that go into a show," he added.

Basu will also be seen in Shoojit Sircar's ‘Madras Cafe’. The television producer said that he is open to doing more roles. "If time allows, and the film and filmmakers do the kind of cinema I like, I would love to face the camera again," he said.

In 1985, Basu became a quiz show host with ‘Quiz Time’ on Doordarshan. He later launched his company Big Synergy that produced shows like ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and ‘Dus Ka Dum’.
