Ahmedabad: IIM graduates selling vegetables! It may sound bizarre but it is true. If you know about their earning, you will be greatly surprised as one of them is earning in crores.  

After graduating from country’s one of the premier business institute IIM Ahmedabad in 2007, Kaushlendra Kumar turned down lucrative job offers and took entrepreneurial path. The IIM graduate developed a unique business model for selling vegetables.

The Bihar born entrepreneur was among the toppers at IIM Ahmedabad. Kaushalendra branded his company as ‘Samridhi, MBA Sabziwala’ which is gradually emerging as a big commercial enterprise. Today, more than six thousand farmers are associated with the company and hundreds of others have got employment.

Kaushlendra adopted professional approach in designing new distribution channel which promises to deliver farm fresh vegetables to customers. He said that his next project is to develop a firm which will empower the farmers to address the issues of FDI in retail.

Kaushlendra embarked on his journey by putting up a small vegetable shop in Patna. He had earned a meager amount of just Rs 22 on the very first day. The IIM graduate is also working towards changing the negative mindset of youngsters towards agriculture.  

Another IIM graduate Nirmal Kumar from Ahmedabad is also pursuing a dream of making it big in the agricultural sector. Nirmal Kumar is soon going to launch his online venture for selling vegetables. The portal will provide users with an option to order farm fresh vegetables. According to Nirmal, the farmers do not get proper amount for their vegetables whereas the customers buy vegetables 300-900 times higher than the actual price. Nirmal expressed hope that with reducing the role of middlemen, vegetables and fruits will become much affordable for consumers.
