Peshawar, Jan 29 (Agencies): Two civilians were killed and six others wounded when pro-Taliban militants ambushed a security forces convoy in the Khyber tribal region of northwest Pakistan on Saturday, official sources said.

The militants attacked the convoy in Shalobar area of Khyber Agency, leading to a gun battle with the security forces, the sources said.

The militants fired three rockets at the convoy, which was carrying security personnel on a routine patrol.

Two civilians caught in the crossfire were killed. A security official was among the six injured.

Two persons who received serious injuries were taken to a hospital in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

An operation by security forces is underway in the Bara region, where the attack took place. Soon after the attack, security personal rushed to the spot and launched a combing operation to nab the militants.
