Beijing (Agencies): Two people were killed and eight others wounded in an explosion on Tuesday at a warehouse storing fireworks in Baicheng City of China's northeast Jilin Province.

The explosions continued for more than two hours. The injured have been taken to hospital, Xinhua news agency reported.

Eighty-five firefighters and 15 fire engines were dispatched to douse the fire, which burnt an area of 2,300 square metres, fire brigade officials informed.

The warehouse owned by Tianyi Groceries Co Ltd is situated four km away from Baicheng city.

Several areas in China witnessed fire accidents caused by burst of fireworks to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Ten people were killed since last week.
