The curfew was imposed in the area since the clashes broke out on Wednesday morning over the burning of a religious flag. According to sources, when the police tried to stop fighting, they found themselves outnumbered.

Tension escalated in other parts of the old city after a report that a youngster was attacked. Even after he was shifted to hospital, heavy stone pelting from both communities continued in the area.

The police imposed prohibitory orders. Additional police and paramilitary forces were rushed to the troubled area.

According to sources, in addition to city police personnel, a large number of security forces have been deployed, including three companies of rapid action force (RAF), two companies of Andhra Pradesh Special Police.
