Jorhat (Assam): The police here have arrested two poachers wanted by the state forest department from near the Kaziranga National Park, officials said on Tuesday.

The motorcycle-bound duo, identified as Bishnu Pegu and Nagen Pegu, was arrested during a routine check at Jorhat Bye-pass on National Highway-37 last night, police said.

A cache of arms and ammunition including a rifle, a magazine, 12 rounds of live cartridges, a silencer apart from mobile phones was also recovered from their possession, they said.

Jorhat SP Sanjukta Parashar said the culprits were wanted by the forest department for the involvement in a rhino coaching racket, particularly in the Kaziranga National Park.

In the last three months, poachers have killed at least five rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park.
