Srinagar: In an apparent terror attack on Saturday, two policemen were killed in Srinagar when the attackers opened sudden gunfire in the heart of the city.

The incident has put security forces on alert as it came just three days ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s scheduled visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Terrorists using silencer-fitted pistols carried out near simultaneous attacks at Jehangir Chowk and Sarai Bala areas of the city injuring Head constable Mohammed Maqbool and constable Nazir Ahmed.
While Mabool died on his way to hospital, Nazir Ahmed succumbed to his injuries when he was being operated.
The Prime Minister is to visit the Valley on June 25. He will inaugurate the train service between Banihal and Qazigund.
