Provincial Minister for Information and Public Relations (I& PR) Palle Raghunatha Reddy said the government is monitoring the situation in port city Visakhapatnam.

He added government has taken various steps to check the spread of the virus and increased awareness campaign for the swine flu.

The minister said a meeting of medical officials and doctors was held at King George Hospital of Visakhapatnam to keep a check on the issue.

Steps like arrangement for isolation rooms, providing adequate medicines and other materials are being taken in the city.

Health officials, however, said swine flu disease this year is not as virulent as it was in 2009, but those suffering from different serious ailments and low immunity need to remain alert.

In 2014, around 88 cases of swine flu were reported in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Last year, 11 persons reportedly died of the deadly disease.

Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems.
