Bhopal: Over 200 scholars and experts from 40 countries will discuss on the importance of religion in modern world during a two-day international conference beginning in Bhopal from Saturday.

"The conference will discuss on various issues including economical and cultural through the point of view from Buddhism and Hinduism. As many as 230 scholars from 40 nations have already arrived here to participate in the conference," said Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Director, India Foundation, part of organising the conference 'Dharma-Dhamma'.

Dharma, known as Dhamma in Pali language, is the confluence of Hinduism and Buddhism, he said.

"The aim behind organising such a conference is to discuss various challenges and issues concerning civilizations across the world. The seminar underscores the needs of understanding the fundamentals of various civilisations," he said.

Over 100 research papers will be presented during the conference. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate the conference here on Saturday.

Participants will deliberate on role of dharma/dhamma in political, ethical and social spheres, scientific and technological pursuits and in economics and business.
Special arrangements have been made by the authorities and organisers to host the international delegates and ensure smooth running of the programme.

Former Union Minister Arun Shourie is likely to take part in one of the plenary sessions on the inaugural day while BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi is expected to participate in valedictory session on September 23.
