New Delhi: To tackle the menace of ragging in colleges, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has undertaken a tough stand in this regard. The commission has directed the institutions to make provisions to check any offense and initiate strict action against those found guilty.

The UGC has warned stringent action against institutes which fail to check ragging incidents.

The educational institutions have been directed to display the contact details of Officers In-charge and helpline numbers in the campus to facilitate students in complaining any such incident.

The colleges are required to form anti-ragging committees. An undertaking will also be taken by the students as well as their parents to discourage and keep away from ragging. Any other initiatives can also be brought in action to check ragging.

According to sources, since the UGC provides financial assistance to the institutions, any failure in curbing ragging can invite hefty fine and scrutiny.
