London: A British court on Thursday ruled that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange can be extradited to Sweden to face sexual assault allegations.

Belmarsh Magistrates Court Judge Howard Riddle while delivering the verdict said, "Mr Assange is to be extradited to Sweden." 39-year-old Assange was in the dock as the decision was read out.

Assange, who denies the allegations, will appeal against the ruling delivered following a hearing two weeks ago.

Wikileaks made headlines around the world with the publication of sensitive material from governments and high-profile organisations, including leaked US diplomatic cables.

Assange was arrested on December 7 under a European Arrest Warrant, and spent nine days in Wandsworth prison before being released on bail.
