United Nations: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday expressed his condolences to those suffering the impact of a storm that has struck the Philippines and killed over 500 people, said UN spokesman Farhan Haq.

“The secretary-general is very concerned by the impact of Tropical Storm Washi known locally as Sendong, which has left at least 508 people killed and hundreds more missing in northern Mindanao, in the Philippines,” Haq told reporters here.

“The secretary-general expresses his condolences to the families of those affected, to the government and the people of the Republic of the Philippines.” Typhoon Washi battered the Mindanao island on December 17, causing massive floods in the region.
