Lucknow: Soon after becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav has sped up the exercise of fulfilling its promise of providing unemployment allowance to the jobless. And in a bid to reduce the burden on the exchequer, the government has adopted a unique method.

Labour and Employment Minister Dr Waqar Ahmad Shah has issued directions to pay unemployment allowances only to those people who are above 35 years of age and have a minimum qualification of high school.

The Training and Employment Department is preparing a proposal in this regard which is expected to be ready by the end of the month.

However, the government is making all efforts to provide jobs to the unemployed but in case the administration fails to do so then those above 35 years of age will only be considered for the allowance. Also, the person would have to produce an affidavit proving he/she is not enrolled in a job.

However, the government is yet to finalize the scheme.

It is to be noted, the Samajwadi Party had promised to pay unemployment allowance to the jobless during the campaign for the 16th assembly elections.
