New Delhi: The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) on Monday said it is all set to present its flagship green industry initiative at the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 20-22.

The green industry agenda outlines policy frameworks, instruments and concrete examples of good practice, as well as measures and programmes that support the greening of the industrial sector in developing countries and economies in transition, UNIDO said in a statement.

Along with this, the UNIDO Environmental Management Branch (EMB) will be holding a series of side events at Rio, including the official launch of the Green Industry Platform, it added.

"...consensus around the concept of Green Economy can only be reached if developing countries are provided with concrete opportunities to participate in global markets for environmental goods and services and opportunities for sustainable development are created for them in international system towards a green economy," the agency said.

"UNIDO's flagship initiative at RIO+20 will be the Green Industry Platform. The Platform is a global multi-stakeholder voluntary membership framework which will help mainstream environmental, climate and social considerations into the operation of enterprises around the world," it said.

The Platform unites businesses, government and civil society for the chance to work together on an equal footing to green existing industries, create new green industries, strengthen the global policy agenda and develop an action agenda for Green Industry the world over.
