Raipur: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said that the allegations made by Chhattisgarh government of allocating seven coal blocks without the recommendation of state government are completely baseless. If the state government stands by its allegations, why BJP is not ready for the discussion in Parliament? He also added that not a single coal block has been allocated without the recommendations of the state government.

The Union Minister accused the BJP ruled state government and the top BJP leaders of misguiding public of the facts in the case of coal block allocation. He also defended the UPA government over the coalgate scam saying that the Union Government has followed complete transparency in the procedure of coal block allocations.

According to the Coal Mining Act 1973, only Coal India Limited (CIL) was entitled for mining but it was opened for private sector too in 1993. The coal blocks were allocated according to this system from 1993 to 2004. Certainly there was no transparency in this system. The BJP-led NDA government also allotted coal blocks following this system during their tenure.
