New Delhi: Before the formation of government in Uttarakhand, the Congress on Tuesday faced a major jolt in the state as the Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Harish Rawat tendered resignation to the Prime Minister.

Rawat was considered to be top contender for the chief ministerial post. After getting thin majority in the state assembly, the Congress is struggling hard to form government.

After several rounds of consultations with newly elected MLAs, Tehri-Garhwal MP Vijay Bahuguna was named as the CM-designate leading to the factionalism in the party.
