New Delhi: The much talked about Unique Identification (UID) would soon becomes a reality as the exercise to enroll the residents of Delhi for it has been put on the fast track and is expected to get completed by September.
The process has already been launched in South West and North West districts which would be extended to all the nine districts in the national capital by June.
Dharmendra Kumar, Delhi divisional commissioner (Revenue) said, “Every Delhiite will have the UID that would be given to them on the basis of Aadhaar numbers to be issued by the UID authority. It would have the citizens’ bio-metric data of eyes’ retina and fingers’ print.”
The enrollment drive would also include new born babies.
As the Revenue Division is functioning as the nodal agency for the UID Authority, the Divisional Commissioner has been appointed the Member Secretary and Manager of UID executive committee.
For the UID enrollment a total 11 registrars have been appointed as registration officers.
As the enrollment process is being handled by the government employees to a large extent, the summer vacation in schools will ease their task in preparing UID for 1 crore, 82 lakhs people in Delhi.
