New Delhi: In order to mark the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers, the United Nations Volunteers, India (UNV) has decided to introduce the Karmveer Prize to be awarded from this year. The prize will be a felicitation of volunteers working for the betterment of the citizens.

Explaining the motive behind this prize, Amita Dahiya of UNV says, “The UNV Karmveer award will encourage the selfless work of volunteering for the welfare of the nation. This will help in increasing participation of the citizens in bringing about the social change.”

According to Dahiya, just a small initiative with complete devotion can help in achieving big goals.

The award will include the UNV Chakra and a letter of appreciation. All those who desire to be recognised for their service to the nation by their volunteer work can apply on www.karmvir.com . Also, one need not be a part of any non-governmental organisation to be eligible for the prize. The selfless devotion of the person to his social duties and work will be sufficient for the award.
