Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India, has been the only President to get elected for the chair twice.

He served as the Congress president from 1939 to 1943.

Dr Prasad topped the entrance examination of Calcutta University and received a scholarship of Rs 30 per month in the year 1902.



Rajendra Prasad was such an excellent academic student that his teacher once wrote, “the examinee is better than the examiner”.


Though a Master in Law, Prasad learnt the subjects of Science under the great Indian scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose.

Rajendra Prasad collected Rs 3.8 million in two days to help the victims of Bihar earthquake in 1934.



There is a museum in Patna called as Rajendra Prasad Sangrahalay dedicated to him.

He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1962.
