The recent incident in Srinagar comes in the backdrop of growing concern over the safety of women including foreign tourists in India ever since the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student in New Delhi last December.

Saturday’s incident has brought back the memories of a gang-rape of a Swiss woman in Madhya Pradesh on March 15,  a rape attempt on a British woman in an Agra hotel on March 19 and molestation of a South Korean woman on a bus in Kolkata on March 25.

Such has been the impact of growing assault cases on foreign nationals that the 31-year-old British woman who jumped off a hotel balcony in Agra to escape the alleged sexual Assault said that she will never travel alone again.

On March 25, a 23-year-old South Korean woman was allegedly molested while boarding a bus in the Kolkata's Thakurpukur area. Jessica Davies, a dental hygienist from Greenwich spoke of her ordeal for the first time since her return to Britain after she cut-short her back-packing tour of Asia. She had jumped off a hotel balcony in Agra to escape an alleged sexaul assault.

The attack on British woman came just six days after a 39-year-old Swiss tourist was gangraped in a forest in Madhya Pradesh while her husband was beaten up. The Swiss couple were on a cycling trip in India and their next destination was Agra.
