Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended 15 engineers of Public Works Department for irregularity and laxity in widening and strengthening of roads from two lane to six lane.

"The engineers suspended by the government included one executive, four assistant and 10 junior engineers. In addition to this, directives have been issued to serve notices to superintending engineer and the then chief engineer central zone," an official spokesman said here.

PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Friday made a surprise inspection of widening and strengthening of Hardoi from Lucknow-Kanpur and Hardoi road to Sitapur road.

The total cost of the 22 km road is Rs 300 crore, he said.

The action has been taken for poor quality of road, lax supervision and irregularity, the spokesman said.
