New Delhi: Rattled by the recent controversies revolving around blackmoney, corruption, Lokpal and 2G, the Congress think-tank has come up with a new formula for success in the forthcoming UP 2012 assembly elections. Rather than pinning high hopes on the party candidates, the Congress leadership has decided to entrust more responsibilities on their sitting parliamentarians from UP and members who are vying for a ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

‘Get two legislators elected from your parliamentary seat, and secure party ticket for the next Lok Sabha poll’ is the new success mantra discovered by the Congress.

As per the party plan, each of the 22 parliamentarians from UP has to ensure the victory of at least two candidates from the assembly constituencies falling under the respective area. Whereas, on the remaining 58 parliamentary seats, the Congress has asked possible candidates for the 2014 General Elections to help contestants win a minimum of one seat.

Sources said, party General Secretary Digvijay Singh while directing the MPs has cleared that their good performance will make them eligible to contest for Lok Sabha seats in 2014. In UP, five assembly seats come under every parliamentary constituency in the state.

“The plan will have two exclusive benefits. While the MPs will have an opportunity to prove themselves in the Assembly elections, it will also help the party in rectifying its mistakes and preparing beforehand for the next Lok Sabha polls,” said a senior party leader.

According to the sources, the MPs will have to give the names of their target assembly constituencies in written to the party so that their performance can be further analysed .
