Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Friday took up obituary references on the demise of minister for sports and youth affairs Kameshwar Upadhyay who passed away last month following prolonged illness.
The chief minister and leader of the house Akhilesh Yadav moved the resolution condoling the death of Upadhyaya (70) on the first day of the winter session of the state assembly.
Yadav, while referring to his meeting with the ailing minister in hospital, expressed profound grief over the death of Upadhyay, who had been an MLA for the fifth term in the present house.
Others who spoke included leader of opposition Swami Prasad Maurya (BSP), Hukum Singh (BJP), Pradip Mathur (Congress), Dalbir Singh (RLD) and Mohd. Ayub (Peace Party).
The house later observed silence as a mark of respect to Upadhaya had died on October 29.
The house was later adjourned for the day.
