Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have arrested two smugglers from a tempo stand of Dharamshala area under Gorakhpur district and recovered counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 1 lakh.

It is believed the smugglers got the money through their links in Beerganj area of Nepal. A case has been registered against both the smugglers in Gorakhnath police station.

Special DG (Law and Order) and ATS chief Brijlal said, “The eastern zone of ATS on Tuesday received information that the dealers were coming from Gorakhpur railway station with fake currency notes, following which the ATS unit and the Gorakhpur police conducted a sudden raid and arrested them at around 7 pm and seized the fake currencies.”

The two arrested smugglers have been identified as Hardoi resident Rafiq and Akeel who belongs to Badaun district.
 
While Rafiq was carrying fake currency notes worth Rs 75,000 fake notes, the remaining amount was recovered from Akeel. Counterfeit notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 were recovered.
