Lucknow: In a late night action, city administration has replaced a Mayawati statue installed at Parivartansthal in Ambedkar park at Gomati Nagar in Lucknow on Friday night which had been vandalized by the anti-social elements.

Pre-planned in vandalizing Maya statues?

Addressing a press conference held at his residence, Nav-Nirman Sena Chief of Uttar Pradesh Amit Jani, said that a person who rang him up informed him that Mayawati statues would be vandalized if no decision is taken to replace those installed during her regime. Jani who hails from Meerut has two buildings and an office in his name.

In this connection, city SSP Ashutosh Pandey said that there are a number of statues pertaining to several Dalit leaders -- including Mayawati and her mentor Kanshi Ram -- placed in the campus of Sangeet Natak Akademy which were also brought to the memorial place.

After a great effort, sculptors put up a new idol of the former Chief Minister in a late night action.

Entire administration got into a tizzy after vandalization of Maya statue was reported . Officials ran helter skelter to search a sculptor named Shravan. Meanwhile, replacing the idol with one made from fiber was also suggested which was not agreed upon by the officials.

Later on, Shravan remembered that a 6.6 feet tall marble statue was already with him. Initially it was to be put up in Kanshi Ram Eco-park but it could not be done so following a Supreme Court order which put a ban order on putting any statue there. However, the statue was put in a safe place and later on put to use.
