Lucknow: Alleging the Congress was mainly responsible for the poor state of Muslims in the country, Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Maulana Ahmad Bukhari on Saturday appealed to Muslims to vote for Samajwadi Party candidates in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

In a joint press conference here with Mulayam Singh Yadav, Bukhari said the SP chief had promised him that his party would work for betterment of Muslims in the event of its coming to power in the state.

Therefore, Muslims should ensure victory of Samajwadi Party candidates, he said.

"During several rounds of meetings with me, the SP chief has promised me that he will ensure justice to Muslims.

"I appeal to the community and those with the secular mindset to ensure victory of SP nominees in the state assembly election," Bukhari said.

He alleged the Congress was mainly responsible for the poor state of Muslims in the country.

The Mayawati-led BSP had also nothing for Muslims, Bhukari said.

Electorate will give befitting reply to vote-bank politics:BJP

Accusing Congress and Samajwadi Party of indulging in vote-bank politics in Uttar Pradesh, BJP said people would give a "strong reply" to parties which are exploiting the Batla House issue and using Jama Masjid imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari to garner Muslim votes.

"People will give a strong reply to those bowing in-front of Batla House and Bukhari house by overlooking national interest just for vote bank politics," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here.

Naqvi on Saturday flagged off the BJP's Sushan Rath which will campaign across the state.

"While Congress and SP are saluting for the sake of votes, it is unfortunate that they are silent on organizations like HuJI and SIMI," Naqvi alleged while reacting on Bukhari extending support to Samajwadi Party.

The BJP leader alleged that these parties were behaving irresponsibly on the issue of national security.

"No clarification has been given in their manifesto or document on the security of the country...Contrary to this they are competing to give a friendly message to anti-national and social organisations," he alleged.

Naqvi said while the two parties were dividing the society by talking about religion-based reservation, they were giving clean chit to those involved in terrorist activities.

"They are boosting the morale of such organisations by adopting a soft and friendly attitude," he alleged.

Both the parties have ruled the state and country for long, but have nothing to count as achievement except a long list of price rise, unemployment and anarchy, Naqvi said.

"Common people especially Muslims have clearly understood their behaviour and conspiracies...All these won't get them their votes," he said.

Naqvi said the Rath would take the messages of senior BJP leaders including Atal Behari Vajpayee, L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj and others to the people.

"Live telecast of speeches of senior leaders during election rally would also be done through this Rath," he said.
