New Delhi: The Congress which has been facing uphill task of distributing tickets has finalized its third list of 65-70 candidates for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2012.  The party will officially declare the names in coming week.

In a meeting with the Congress high command Sonia Gandhi, senior party leaders discussed strategies for UP elections and formed consensus over the names of 70 candidates to represent the party in the state. The Congress has so far declared 165 names in its first two lists.

According to the sources, names of more than two candidates were given for several seats. In such situation, party leaders formed consensus over 65-70 seats leaving atleast 50 for Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in the western UP. It is worth mentioning that the Congress formed an alliance with the RLD to fight on 403 assembly seats in UP.

According to sources, declaration of the third list will prove fruitful for the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s forthcoming rally in Phoolpur on November 14.
