Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister Ramveer Upadhyaya on Tuesday issued a legal notice to BJP national secretary Kirit Somaiya accusing him of levelling false allegation with an intent of maligning his image.

The minister in his notice sent through counsel Manoj Kumar Dwiwedi said that allegations of Somaiya accusing him of Rs 3,000 crore scam in power purchase agreement were baseless, misleading and without any fact.

Dwiwedi said his client's name has been mentioned in the complaint lodged with Lokayukta alleging scam in power purchase agreement signed between UP Power Corporation Limited and its associated companies.

It has been alleged that baseless allegations have been levelled in the complaint with political animosity.

All decisions in the UPPCL and its associate companies are taken by the board of directors and the Energy Minister has no role in its day to day working, Dwiwedi said.

The Minister has asked the BJP leader to contradict his statement given in the media earlier within 15 days or else legal action would be taken against him.

Meanwhile, the BJP said the notice has not been received yet. "We have not yet received any notice, but will reply to any notice. The news item was published in the media on the basis of our complaint lodged with the Lokayukta," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
