Lucknow: Facing brick-bat from all quarters for being unable to tone-down farmers’ agitation and land compensation row in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday replaced NCR zone’s Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Gurbachan Lal with ADG security KL Meena. Gurbachan will now take over as ADG Telecom.

The state government also replaced Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) SN Singh with SSP, Directorate of Training, Jyoti Narayan and was given the charge of Training Directorate in Lucknow.

Both the ADG and SSP were blamed for failure to check the Bhatt-Parsaula political drama, which put a lot of pressure on the state government. On Saturday, government removed both the senior officers.

It may be noted that last year in order to implement law and order in the zone and curb rising crime, government had constituted National Capital region (Meerut) zone and assigned the responsibility to ADG Gurbachan Lal. Seven districts of Meerut and Saharanpur range were included in the zone.

The action was initiated against both the officers as the zone witnessed several crimes during the period. However, the farmers’ movement mounted pressure on government to take a tough stand.

Meanwhile, the Noida Police also toiled hard to arrest the absconding farmers’ leader Manveer Singh Tewatia by announcing a cash award of Rs 50,000 on His head. Despite extensive raids conducted in Meerut and adjoining districts by the UP and Haryana police Tewatia continues to be on the run.

The help of STF and the surrounding districts police is also being sought in his arrest. Failing to arrest Tewatia, Police have initiated the procedure of attaching the elusive leader’s property.
