Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav’s government was planning to release Tariq Kasmi and Khalid Mujahid, accused in the 2007 serial blasts in Faizabad, Varanasi and Lucknow courts. Though, nobody is ready to make any official confirmation but the Home Ministry is seeking an opinion from law department in this regard.

Besides, ministry is also seeking information from STF and anti-terrorism squad in context to the existing evidence of crime committed by the accused. Since the government itself is plaintiff in these cases, so it can file a petition to withdraw the case but only the court will decide that the application will be accepted or not.

Tariq Kasmi hails from Sammopur near the town of Azamgadh’s queen’s inn whereas Khalid Mujahid belongs to Jaunpur district. Special Task force claimed that the accused duo was arrested near the Barabanki railway station on 22 December 2007. RDX and other ammunitions were allegedly recovered from the accused duo, currently lodged in Lucknow jail. The earlier government had formed an investigation commission but they could not reached to any conclusion.

Six consecutive blasts rocked Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad courts in Uttar Pradesh on November 23, 2007 afternoon in a span of 25 minutes, in which 10 people were killed and several others injured.
