Lucknow: In the wake of inter-state election campaigns, the Uttar Pradesh government has urged the Centre to enhance security cover for the Chief Minister Mayawati, who is already being escorted by the NSG commandos.

The state government has asked the Centre to send three more teams of National Security Guard commandos to enhance security blanket for the Chief Minister.

Notably, the CM has been enjoying Z-plus security ring since 2007 which entitles her to bullet proof cars, three teams of NSGs (each comprising six commandos) and two escort vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that in 2008, the Centre did not entertain the state’s demand to provide the CM with elite Special Protection Group (SPG) cover in view of grave threat to her from terrorist groups.

Following this, the state had added 50 Cobra commandos to her security ring. Sources said that the Union Home Ministry had given nod to the addition of 40 Cobra commandos.
