Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government will now fix the dates for conducting urban civic body polls in the state. The government rejected the State Election Commission recommendation to uphold the polls between September 24 and November 5.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Durga Shanker Mishra by writing a letter intimated State Election Commissioner Rajendra Bhaunwal on the issue of deciding urban body’s poll date.

In his letter written on September 23, Mishra said any decision about the date of polls will be fixed after settling the issue of ward reservation and rotation for urban body polls in the state.

In its reaction on the matter of fixing poll date, the SEC said it could initiate poll process only after the state government issues notification in this regard.
