Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government has decided to send scholarship money to all eligible students belonging to minorities and studying in pre-matric classes by directly to their accounts in nationalised banks.

The order will also cover students enrolled in Madarsas. According to Secretary, Minorities Welfare Leena Jauhari, the state government has taken this decision in view of complaints about corruption and irregularities under the scheme in some districts of the state.

A government order has been issued to all district magistrates in the state to ensure opening of bank accounts in the name of all the eligible students in the CBS branch of a nationalised bank where the account of the institution of the concerning students is being operated, she said.

In case the bank branch of the institution/Madarsa is far off from the campus, the account of the student should be opened in the nearest branch of the nationalised bank, she said adding it has been stated in the government order that the formalities of opening these accounts must be completed by August 31 next.

According to the government order, the account of the students below the age of 10 years will be opened under the natural guardianship whereas the accounts of the students above the age of 10 years will be opened in their names.

These accounts will be opened on the basis of saving zero opening balance.
