Lucknow: Irked at the steep hike in power tariff for the industrial sector in Uttar Pradesh, industrialists on Wednesday announced a statewide protest beginning on October 26 and demanded a roll-back.

Contending that only industrial houses and small businessmen were targeted in the revised power tariff, trading community leader Ashok Motiyani said they are demanding a roll back as this steep hike would hurt the industry, specially the small scale and cottage industry.

Banwari Lal Kanchal, president of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Pratnidhi Mandal said the Indian Industries Association (IIA) would be joining their agitation. The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) late last week announced a new tariff plan with increased per unit charge for the industrial sector.
