"We will be trying the model in Ghaziabad and based on the results, the private model will be implemented in other parts of the state," an official said.

The project would be implemented in areas, including Kavi Nagar, Indirapuram and Vaishali in Ghaziabad. The effort is not only to ensure proper supply to these residential areas but also to be sure that disputes over water do not occur, the official said.

He added that talks with a Mumbai-based company are in the initial stages and very soon a decision would be taken. With growing population and shrinking government resources, officials say, privatization of water supply seems the best option.
