Ghaziabad: In a major initiative to ameliorate the traffic scenario on NH-58 between UP Gate and Meerut, the state government has forwarded a proposal worth Rs 40.85 crore to the Centre.

Under the year plan of 2011-12, the national highway unit of Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a proposal which includes six-lane bridge over the drain at Modinagar-Govindpuri, central verge on roads and improvement of T-points.

Upbeat over the project, the departmental officials claimed that the work would be completed a year within the approval from the Union Government.

Executive Engineer (National Highway) Ravi Dutt Kumar said the proposal has been prepared to ease the traffic congestion from UP gate to Meerut and works will commence once it gets nod from the Central government.

In wake of dilapidated condition of Modinagar-Govindpuri nallah accounting for the long traffic holdovers, a six-lane flyover will be constructed over it.

The 40 metre long bridge will be built at the cost of Rs 7 crore. The proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Centre and Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).

Meanwhile, a central verge will be constructed from Meerut T-point to Mohddinpur on the highway route.
