Congress nominee Rani Amita Singh, wife of Sultanpur MP Sanjay Singh, is once again trying her luck from Amethi Assembly constituency to retain her berth in the state Assembly. Amethi is going to polls in the third phase which is due on 15th February. She had won last election in 2007 from here with a huge margin of 15,000 votes.

Given her last performance, she emerged as the natural choice of the party. Amethi is said to be the fiefdom of Nehru-Gandhi family as the Lok Saba seat was in past represented first by Sanjay Gandhi and later by former Prime Minister and Sanjay’s brother Rajiv Gandhi.

Now Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi is representing the seat in the Lok Sabha. Naturally retaining Amethi Assembly seat seems to be an easy job for Rani Amita Singh. Amita is pitted against BSP candidate Ashish Shukla, Rashmi Singh of BJP and Gayatri Prasad Prajapati of SP.
