Lucknow: The Congress, which is this time crystal-gazing its comeback in Uttar Pradesh, seems to have girded up its loins in the face of 2012-Assembly elections in the state. In a bid to fix the Achilles heel of the Congress, the party functionaries have huddled together and laid emphasis on corroborating the grass-root level of the party in order to settle high score in the polls.

Addressing a regional working committee of the party, State President Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Monday categorically said that there is a need of making more efforts to streamline the booth-level preparedness of the Congress to ensure the success of the party in the upcoming elections. The district-level party presidents were asked to stand robust to gain more in the elections.

The task of forming booth-level committees must be completed till November and responsibilities should be handed over to the president and representatives of the committees, Bahuguna said.

She instructed the party members to pay particular attention to extend contacts with people during the festive season.

Until list of candidates is declared, everyone has right to express his feeling and demand for ticket, she said and added that there is no difference in the party and the party workers are united to catapult the Congress to the power.

All India Congress Committee Secretary and party in-charge of UP, Parvez Hashmi said, “The block-level meetings must be conducted on different dates to ensure maximum participation of the district heads of the party as they are the backbone of the Congress.”

Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari said that the candidates whose names were declared should start their election campaign as early as possible as the situation is more favourable this time.

In the meeting it was also transpired that candidates should be selected on the basis of their devotion to the party and their clean image among the people.
