Allahabad: The wife of Uttar Pradesh Minister and BSP candidate from Allahabad (South), Abhilasha Gupta on Sunday filed nomination papers as an independent candidate from the same constituency her husband is contesting on BSP ticket.

Abhilasha Gupta (38), wife of Minister for Homeopathic Medicine Nand Gopal Nandi, filed her nomination shortly before filing of nominations for the third phase of polls came to a close.

Earlier, Abhilasha had filed her nomination papers in the 2007 polls also, but withdrew later.

According to sources close to Nandi, Abhilasa will once again withdraw her nomination if her husband’s nomination papers are found valid. In case, Nandi’s nomination papers are rejected, Abhilasha will contest on his behalf.

According to the available records, Abhilasha holds liability of Rs 1 lakh whereas husband Nandi has liability of more than Rs 1 lakh. While Abhilasha has movable assets worth Rs 52 crore, Nandi has movable assets worth Rs 32 crore. The couple has two BMW car worth Rs 1.4 crore each and jewelries worth Rs 21 lakh. The couple also has one rifle and pistol.

The duo has total asset worth of Rs 95.25 crore.

While Abhilasha has taken Rs 26.46 crore loans from several banks, her husband has taken Rs 4.1 crore loan.

Nandi, who was a city-based industrialist before venturing into politics, had pulled off a sensational victory in the 2007 assembly polls, defeating heavyweights like former Assembly Speaker and the then state BJP president Keshri Nath Tripathi and UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

He was straightaway inducted into the cabinet.

He was also severely injured in a bomb attack outside his residence here on July 12, 2010.
