Lucknow: The political tug-of-war between the Congress and Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh continues. And the latest issue to become contentious between the two is the RTI application filed by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi seeking details of the expenditure incurred under the various schemes of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Uttar Pradesh.

While the Uttar Pradesh government is invoking the cost of providing photo state copies of the financial records as the reason to deny information to Rahul Gandhi, the Congress has charged the BSP government of coming up with lame excuses as it’s shying away from divulging the information.

The Uttar Pradesh government has contended that the entire information can be documented in around 20,000 pages and the cost to provide a copy of it would run into lakhs. However, when the Congress asked for a soft copy of the records in a Compact Disc, the state administration turned down its request citing technical reasons.

The issue is all set to turn political as the Congress has called a meeting of its state officials on May 27 to formulate a strategy on the issue.

Earlier, UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, on behalf of Rahul Gandhi, had filed an RTI plea seeking fund details under various projects conducted by NRHM between 20005-2010.
